Skateboarding Reviews - Videos & DVDs

American Heritage Dictionary defines "diversity" as:

1. The fact or quality of being diverse; difference.
   • A point or respect in which things differ.
2. Variety or multiformity: "Charles Darwin saw in the diversity of species the principles of evolution that operated to generate the species: variation, competition and selection".

However it should be noted that this DVD's title is not spelled that way - it's titled, Divercity. Which accounts for all the scuba sites that come up in the search engines. Wow guys... Diver City is such a clever name for your scuba business. It's as if every time you don a snorkel, you enter your cool little salt water city where all your diving buddies hang out. There must be a Sponge Bob joke in there somewhere. Anyway...

Divercity opens with an interesting montage... until you realize you're watching a commercial. Then you realize there are several commercials. Ugh. Well, something has to offset the cost of making videos; I suppose. The ad for The Skateboard Mag is pretty cool actually - as commercials go. They have pros like Tony Hawk and Erik Koston fill in the blank. "I love skateboarding because ________."

Spelling aside, the diversity of this disc makes it particularly interesting. There are 5 main parts by the featured skaters, but mixed in are very short parts by a host of pros. By short we mean about 20 seconds each. The pro's name is flashed on screen, a trick completed and another name flashes up. It would have been nice to have a little more time with each skater, but I guess we have to take what we're given. And how many videos offer you any diversity?

Zered Bassett alone will sell many copies of this DVD. Hailing from the eastern-most part of the U.S., Massachusetts. He got his start at the Chatham Skate Park on Cape Cod (home of the Massachusetts driving moniker... mass-hole. Go drive around MA, you'll see where it came from).

Australian native, Lewis Marnell makes quite a splash with his skating. Definitely a name to look out for.

Both the spots and the skating is great. The soundtrack shines in some places and leaves you wondering in others. This is a cool disc - give it a spin.
