I admire that statement. I want to believe in that statement - “I could be Skater Of The Year”. Can you imagine? Nah, me either. As I glance over the covers announcing Thrasher’s SOTY, I find each winner to have only one thing in common with me... A love for skateboarding.
Once you get past that similarity, the whole concept goes to Hell. Drat, I can’t be skater of the year. I’m too old, can’t skate worth a damn and no one in the sk8 industry has ever heard of me let alone put me on the cover of their mag. I guess that sums up my resignation decision from the potential SOTY line-up.
Although, if Jake ever wants to widen the spectrum of candidates I’ll gladly video tape myself face-planting on a sidewalk crack and see if my bailing prowess will over shadow the 50-stair rails all the ten-year-olds are ripping up these days. Who knows...
